Shivapuri National Park offers great day hike and a nice way to shake off the jet lag before heading to base camp or the higher mountains. Shivapuri Hiking is a short and easy treks near the capital, Kathmandu. Shivapuri, located at the height of 2732m northern part of Kathmandu is the second highest hill around Kathmandu valley offers nice jungle walk through sprawling forest to Shivapuri, natural environment, spectacular Mountain View of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang Himal and Gaurishankar Himal to east.

Exploring cultural villages is more rewarding which is located near the source of holy Bagmati River, a paradise for bird watchers. The good thing about hiking in the Shivapuri area is that there are numerous options – whether to hike for just 2, 3 hours or for an entire day – there are choices. If you look for a short hike around this area then we can walk up to Nagi Gompa, and end the hike at Kapan Gompa.

Our Guide will pick you up early in the morning at your hotel in Kathmandu. Drive from Kathmandu to Muhan Pokhari for about 30 minutes. After handling the formalities at the Shivapuri entrance gate, you enter the Shivapuri watershed and wildlife area. You commence your hike from the southern boundary of the area where the army check-post is located. The trail goes along the rugged but drivable road through pine and cherry forests up to Nangi Gompa within one and a half hours. Here, a nunnery monastery is located.
After the monastery, the trail goes steeply uphill through the oak, rhododendron and bamboo forests for another three hours. From here you can enjoy the beauty of the snowy Himalaya ranges such as Ganesh Himal, Langtang-Lirung, and Dorje Lhakpa. Finally, you take a shortcut downhill to Budhanilkantha in about two and a half hours before commencing your drive back to Kathmandu.
