Nagarkot has a reputation as the top spot for enjoying Himalayan views from the comfort of your hotel balcony. Just 32km from Kathmandu, the village is packed with hotels, stacked up on a ridge facing one of the broadest possible views of the Himalaya. The most popular activity in Nagarkot is simply looking at the mountains. The famous Mount Everest is sometimes visible from some of the high points, especially on a clear day. The hills of Nagarkot are thickly covered by pine trees, and the atmosphere is not too elevated for those who aren’t acclimated to high altitude, but high enough to offer some of the cleanest and freshest air in the world. If planning to step out to explore some of the town, perhaps take a leisurely trek through the Jalapadevi Temple Trail, which has the benefit of exploring a local temple while also enjoying the outdoor greenery.

The Kali Devi Temple is a great place to take part in some of Nepal’s religious culture, and is easy to reach on foot from much of the village. Most of the hotels in Nagarkot are very experienced with international tourists who make the trek from Kathmandu, and can recommend the best trails and tour guides if necessary.

People often visit Nagarkot to spend one or two nights to wake up early to see the beautiful sunrise. Nagarkot is actually one of the best places to see Mount Everest and other of the high snow covered peaks of the Himalayan mountain range.

The best viewing seasons are October to December and March to April, when clear skies are likely.
