A well equipped team of photographers, camera persons, geographers, writers, and tourism experts went on a trek to Dolpa. Geographical information was gathered through observation, photography, videography, and collection of GPS data. Cultural information was gathered through interaction with locals. Interaction programs with local government bodies and stakeholders were held at multiple points.
Until 1996, Dolpo was a forbidden land with an authentic Tibetan culture largely unchanged for the last 1200 years. High, arid plateaus scarred by deep canyons form Upper Dolpo, which is a distinct contrast to the fertile lower valley to the south of the Kanjiroba and Dhaulagiri ranges. Specialist gear required include walking boots and day pack (a comprehensive gear list is provided in the pre-departure information provided on booking).
